In the passion of the civil rights campaigns of 1964 and 1965, Jonathan Kozol gave up the prospect of a promising career in the academic world, moved from Harvard Square into a poor black neighborhood of Boston, and became a fourth grade teacher. Jonathan models the commitment of many people who choose education as their vocation, despite the difficulties.
Ted Howard is the founder and Executive Director of The Democracy Collaborative at the University of Maryland. Mr. Howard co-ordinated what has been called “The Cleveland Miracle” that featured the use of the worker co-op model for transforming the inner city. Their success is one reason we, at EEC, decided to use the worker co-op business model. The Collaborative fosters inclusive economic and community development.
